WHAT THE
FUCK IS
BAUHAUS?

Screen printed poster design and book design were born in the Dutch workshop. It involves graphic experiment, font arrangement, color design, screen printing, book design and many other contents with abundant information.

The CONCEPT of  WHAT THE FUCK IS BAUHAUS?

First, I learned that the "De Stijl" of the Netherlands that first appeared in the 20th century in the field of painting, advocating the pure use of geometric abstraction to express pure spirit, and the rational and mathematical analysis of structure and order. To quote Doesburg, "the square is to us what the cross was to early Christianity."

I printed out regular triangles of 12cm, 16cm and 20cm on A4 paper, cut them out and rearranged them on A4 paper, trying to re-understand the design concepts and principles derived from the "De Stijl ". Nowadays, design teaching is all conducted with computers, so students lose the sense of scale. However, in this workshop, all the students have to re-understand design through practice, and experiment. The hands-on engagement drives the in-depth thinking, which adds a new idea to my later design.

During this period, I overcompleted many posters, book typesetting. Afterwards, I went to the paper factory to choose paper, paper cutting, interviewed each team, helped with screen printing posters of each member's films production and printing. 36 people each completed three posters with at least three tints for each poster. Finally, the posters were exhibited by a string a fishing line of four metres, where three walls show close typesetting photography, alongside with the piano accompaniment. It won high praise from the industry.

I also played the first "Bauhaus football game" in my life -- to think about the cooperation, competition and independent relationship between various shapes through the physical confrontation of the body.

The CONCEPT of  WHAT THE FUCK IS BAUHAUS?

I've always believed that design is not about going straight to the end, but more importantly about understanding why you're doing it in the process. Firstly, it establishes a rational structural order, and then finds out the humanized emotional characteristics and mutual relations of mutual dialogue, confrontation and cooperation among figures, forms and characters in the rigor, so as to make a design with both functionalism and artistic characteristics. Because cultural thinking is a commitment to social responsibility, unified design needs art and technology. The purpose of design is to output and communicate with people, designed to make the audience clearly feel the temperature and power of the design, so as to inspire them with the feeling of life and vision. Hence, design requires a combination of natural and objective laws.
